Questions from Resident
As a concerned citizen of NWV I have questions around th e qualifications of the current CAO, as seen below in a post from the town of NWV in May of 2024 it is stated that she is a project manager. According to the Gardner Centre "Fundamentals of Project Management" is a 2 day course and is only one small part of becoming a "Project Manager" with many more requirements to get your Project Management Professional (PMP) designation and be considered a Project Manager. Next is the statement that she is "currently completing her MSc in leadership for Sustainable Rural Development through MUN". I decided to reach out to MUN for some clarification- this is a copy of the response. This raises a couple of questions for me. • Are these the qualifications that were used to promote from the inte rim CAO position to the full time CAO position? • Is this individual the one we want representing our town as we are goin...
People are afraid to speak out and tell THEIR truth. The minute they do it seems to be they are the bad people only trying to cause trouble.
ReplyDeleteThere has to be sense of accountability from council. That's what council and staff are there for. To act in the best interest of the public, provide clarification, information, answer questions, etc....
Why did you spend the first part of this meeting back tracking to 2023 to shame a former employee? Answer the questions in the present and take accountability instead of trying to blame others.
Exactly!
DeleteHeretofore I have remained an observer of the postings on this blog but upon viewing the attached video for the first time I feel it necessary to speak about the subject of nepotism as brought forth in the video. Marilyn was accused of this practice by an employee of the citizens of this town and to the unknowing observer it would appear a clear cut case and dismissed as obvious nepotism. But to that very same person without the full story I would say the facts speak otherwise.
ReplyDeleteIt is my understanding that this discussion centers around the need for individuals to assist in the hosting of cruise ships that were taking place in the council chamber while Marilyn was CAO and a counselor present somewhat casually offered up my name as a candidate for consideration. Marilyn had little to do with initiating this conversation and only followed up on this mention at the behest of council. I did indeed meet with her shortly thereafter and was favourable to the idea but at such time no commitments were made regarding employment. The discussion did include conversation about the need for a second individual as the need for this service would be sporadic and given it would certainly be secondary employment it be hoped that one of the selected persons would be available to fill the need once such time had arisen. At this point I had left the conversation with no further contact with the Town until 28 May 2024 at which time I was contacted once more by the present CAO to provide a resumé. This was followed by an in-person interview 12 July 2024. It was only after this meeting that I was offered the position and accepted via email. I was also informed that I would receive an update about completing the required training program once an appropriate course had been identified. I feel that in a small town this process would be more than adequate to negate any accusations of nepotism given the connection I had to the person conducting the act of nepotism was certainly less than tenuous at this point.
I feel that for a full chamber of elected officials and the employed manager to speak of such ills is indeed a stretch especially given an individual has been trained for the other position with a very real connection to the present council and sitting councilor. Given this sitting councilor would have also been involved in the hiring process regarding present employees it leads me to think that a blind spot exists in the chamber. I have no doubt that the person employed is more than qualified and that they are very capable and it isn't the intention of this post to cause distress in any way to this person but rather to help hold the facts regarding situations past to the light and avoid it being kneaded into a story in the present to fit what more and more appears a narrative distorted when held up and reflected into the mirror of these facts. As I don't spend time trolling the sewers of social media I expect anyone needing clarification of the facts presented to contact me or approach me while out and about. And as a sideline I don't dwell in the halls of personal truths. Truths are such if you believe them or not. There are facts and beliefs and my thoughts tend to pick facts.
Thank you for the other side of the story. Things aren’t always as they seem.If you were the first one hired, should you not have received the training first?
DeleteI’m sorry Duke if you are going to write a comment please make the wording a little simpler. Just a thought.
DeleteThis is a breakdown for any of you who are unable to understand Duke’s comment.
DeleteBasically the former CAO was accused of hiring her brother in law because of their close connection. This was not the case given she actually resigned prior to him being given the opportunity to take the job. However, the other individual hired has a family member who is a member of council and councillors are responsible for anyone being hired. So why is this not being questioned as favouring their relative, or nepotism as it is known?
This is a fair question!
Thanks for the clarification, that’s a real interesting question!
DeleteInteresting! So they accuse someone else of nepotism (even though it’s clearly not the case), but are actually guilty themselves of nepotism? Well isn’t that a case of the pot calling the kettle black!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the Council did anything wrong in hiring the other person, but they have to stop this foolishness of blaming Marilyn for things that didn't happen. I want to see a public apology for how she's been treated.
